Free Download Norton Antivirus 2006 - For home users, who don’t want to get too technical, there is recommended settings and an easy-to-find scan button that will instantly start to scan your computer based on these settings. More advanced users can go into the settings tab and completely customize what they would like the program to do.

Uninstall Norton Antivirus 2006

People often ask me :” Whether there were problems with Uninstall Norton Antivirus?”. I decide to write about uninstalling of Norton Antivirus 2006 (you can use this article to uninstall Norton Antivirus 2005 too).

Generally, you uninstall applications by using the Windows utility for the task, but Norton Antivirus tends to get in a bit deeper into the system, so it’s tricker to remove it completely. Here’s how you can do that:

1. Go to Start –> Control Panel –> Add/Remove Programs.
2. Scroll down to your Antivirus 2006 program
3. Click Change –> Remove All.
You will be asked to restart your PC. Do so.
4. Now go to Start –> My Computer –> Program Files. Right click on each Symantec folder and select Delete.
5. While you are in Program Files go to the Common Files folder at or near the top of the Program Files window. Delete every Symantec folder there. And, again, restart your PC.
6. Go to Start –> Search –> All Files and Folders –> More Advanced Options. Check each option except for “Case sensitive”
Now type in Norton and delete each Norton Antivirus 2006 folder from the search results (Again, right click, choose “Delete”). One more time, restart your PC.
7. Repeat step 5 except type Symantec in the “Search” box.

It’s really easy.

Norton Antivirus Bash

Norton Antivirus [download free Norton Antivirus] has lately been going through something of a rough patch, if you’ll pardon the expression. With Microsoft Antivirus Beta taking aim at its core market at the same time that security holes in Symantec’s corporate products have been coming to light, it seems like everybody’s been picking on them. And that’s certainly all the invitation Gripe Line readers need to join the fun, so let me kick off this bash by offering another of my periodic collections of recent Symantec gripes from readers.

“I’ve subscribed to Norton AntiVirus for at least 3 years and never had a problem, but then I purchased Norton’s Internet Security 2006 and have had nothing but problems since,” wrote one reader. “Trying to contact Symantec has proved to be futile. When I log on to their website, I’m directed to their automated support where I get no help. After numerous tries at that, I went to their customer service page and found, finally, a way to send them an e-mail message. I received no reply. I tried again a number of times in past months with no results. I fail to understand how they can pull this and expect people to lay down and forget that a product they sold does not work and they refuse to address it.”

Indeed, many Norton customers seem to find it virtually impossible to communicate with Symantec at all. “Is there any way at all to complain to Symantec, on line or by phone?” a reader wondered. “I recently tried to upgrade to the tune of $60 on my credit card — and the damned program wouldn’t install. Now I have no one to ask about how to do this — extremely frustrating.”

Those who did succeed in getting through to Symantec will often find — as we’ve just been discussing concerning software publishers in general - that their only answer is to pay for the support. “We have used Norton Internet Security for the last six years on five computers,” another reader wrote. “Last week when the Live Update box popped up on the screen and I clicked to order the update, the first bar froze about one-quarter of the way through. It did that twice more that day, so I was never able to install the update. The next morning I called their customer service number and, after instructing me how to uninstall the Live Update feature, the tech support person sent me an email about how to re-install it using their website. I could not re-install it. I called customer service again and another tech support person told me that I would have to pay $69.95 to remove about seven adware and spyware files before I could re-install Live Update. Since this was not a problem of my making, I’ve cancelled the service on all the computers in our office. I have loyally stayed with Symantec and Norton through the years and ignored all the free download offers, but their greediness ended that.”

As we see every time we hold one of these little Symantec bashes, the problems for Norton AntiVirus customers often seem to revolve around the product’s bug-prone product activation. “Not only did NAV keep asking me to activate, after some fixed number of time it decided I had activated too many times and I had to call tech support to fix the problem,” wrote one reader. “But here’s the kicker: when NAV decides I need to activate again, it shuts itself down! Now not only am I being hassled after paying for a product, but it’s not protecting me as well. After two years of this runaround service, I switched vendors and haven’t looked back. In a small victory, I convinced our internal systems support at work to switch away from NAV as well. With over 15,000 licensed desktops, their sales guys made a pretty big push. I provided our IT guys with the e-mails and web information I had received over the years and they decided to trust an actual user experience instead of the sales guy’s pitch.”

Norton Antivirus: open to hackers

PC World reports that popular anti-virus tools by Symantec (Norton Antivirus) - published under the Norton Antivirus suite of security products - suffers a serious vulnerability. The vulnerability affects version 10 of Symantec’s enterprise antivirus software, and could lead to Norton Antivirus customers being attacked and their systems controlled by a hacker - all without Norton anti-virus noticing. eEye Digital Security say that normal consumer anti-virus packages should be safe from the flaw, but that Norton may take weeks to get the vulnerability patched for business users. The alert helps to demonstrate that simply putting blind faith in security software is no substitute for using common sense and basic security awareness.

Norton releases Norton Antivirus 10.1 Mac OS X

AntiVirus is serious these days, and we had a chance to install the new Norton AntiVirus 10.1, which was reasonably fast. During the install, Norton provided good antivirus information. The Antivirus 10.1 also has an excellent Mac OS X integraton. Very easy to use. Compatible with Intel PCs, PowerPC, Panther 10.3, and Tiger 10.4.The only problem we saw during our installation is that Norton installs components all over your system. But, for a price of around $39 and $15 per year for virus definition updates, it does keep your system protected.

Norton AntiVirus has been around for years, and the current version shows it: The interface has been refined to a clean, easy-to-understand sheen. The default settings for version 10.1 should take care of your basic virus-scanning needs.

Symantec has collected a huge, detailed database of virus information on its Web site. You can search for the recent viruses and malwares. For instance, you’ll get a page full of information, including screenshots. If a virus is found on your machine, a Learn More button will open the relevant page from Symantec’s site in a mini-browser window within the application.

Norton AntiVirus is also thorough in finding malware. One way the program keeps scans speedy: It checks only files you’ve updated since your last scan. The program also optimizes its scans using what it calls SafeZones: A SafeZone is any part of your hard drive in which modified files are immediately scanned for malware and viruses. By default, your entire machine is defined as a SafeZone, but it’s easy to change that so it only scans those folders you’re truly worried about (Mail or Downloads, for example).

Norton Antivirus blocks malicious AOL

Symantec (Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security) has been bending over backwards to reassure AOL users after the Intrusion Detection signature that was loaded with the latest update prevented people from logging into the ISP. As a result of the problem, which affected both Norton Antivirus and Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall, traffic coming from AOL was deemed to be malicious and was blocked. Ultimately, the bug was traced to the area that prevents hackers from entering a computer through open ports.

Symantec says it fixed the bug within seven hours but was forced to publish a fix for people who continued to have trouble. If anyone cannot get onto the Internet because AOL is their ISP, Symantec recommends disabling the security software to fetch the patch to there Norton Antivirus.

Norton AntiVirus user free review - choose Norton now

Norton AntiVirus user free review - choose Norton now
Simple and powerful, Norton AntiVirus Sofware protects your PC against viruses and AntiVirus covers e-mail and instant messaging, too. The program’s clear and simple interface shows you what you’re protected against, how up-to-date your virus definitions are, and when you last checked your whole system. Anything you need to worry about is clearly marked in red.

Installation of Norton AntiVirus is simple: you can accept all the defaults without worry, and you’ll be prompted to go online and get up-to-date definitions as soon as you install. If a virus is found, the software will try to automatically repair the file. In addition to looking for known viruses, the Norton AntiVirus Bloodhound feature tries to spot new viruses and worms by their behavior. AntiVirus also checks for viruses in files you download from the Web, in e-mail, and now in instant messages. If you use MSN Messenger you’ll need to reboot; other messaging tools are protected straight away. With e-mail, Norton AntiVirus can check incoming and outgoing messages and files in POP3 clients like Outlook Express. While AntiVirus 2002 would only stop you from getting infected by an e-mail worm, this version stops you from passing the infection on to others.

Checking your system and downloading updates are two things you need to do regularly. Norton AntiVirus makes them relatively painless by setting up a full scan once a week and checking for new updates whenever you’re online. Running a full scan does take time and you’re not given an estimate of how long; a large drive can take 30 minutes or even an hour, and it ties up a lot of your PC’s power. Simple update scanning hardly slows down your PC down at all.

Norton AntiVirus is an excellent way to guard against viruses. While it’s not a major upgrade, as instant messaging becomes more popular, it’s good to see tools to protect your system.
